The Yorkville Enquirer, of November 19, gives prominent place to an interesting account of the organization of a Wesley Club at Clover. Lack of space prevents our use of the full story, but parts of it are too good to miss. The Enquirer's staff correspondent says: Some sixty or more men, most of them members of the Methodist church of Clover, and a few invited guests who were not Methodists, enjoyed a luncheon in the auditorium of the city hall here this evening, and after enjoying stewed oysters, sandwiches and coffee, listened to several short talks by invited guests, including John R. Hart, M. L. Carroll and A. M. Grist of Yorkville. The guests had assembled at the invitation of the promoters of the Wesley Club of the Clover Methodist church, and the object of the meeting was to get that embryo club into working shape. G. R. Hopper, temporary president of the club, presided, and introduced the speakers of the evening, and then after the talks he stated the object of the gathering and the purposes of the proposed club, the idea having grown out of a recent suggestion of the pastor of the church, Rev. N. A. Page, who suggested that a Wesley club be organized in the local church for the purpose of getting more enthusiasm in the men folks and securing their help in building up its various activities. Mr. G. R. Hopper was elected president, and Mr. L. L. Hardin, secretary-treasurer of the organization.
