SACRAMENTO. April 6.-(UP)- A plan for lengthening the pheasant hunting season in California and increasing the bag limit today received approval of the Assembly fish and game committee.
The plan, contained in a bill by Assemblyman Harrison W. Call Redwood City, would increase the bag limit from eight to 10 and lengthen the present 10-day season to 15 days. In addition, a bag of six birds would be allowed on the opening day, which would be November 28, under the measure.
A provision that tags costing $1 for 10 would have to be purchased by pheasant hunters was opposed by representatives of several sportsmen's organizations.
The committee considered, but failed to act on a constitutional amendment to make state fish and game commission members elective officers. A motion to take the measure brought a 7-to-4 vote, but 11 votes were needed.
The committee recommended the following bills:
By Swallisch, permit canning of salmon on the Sacramento river.
By Brady, permit importation under state inspection of spiny lobsters caught in Mexico.
By Crittenden, open the Mokelumne river from mouth to Woodbridge dam to salmon angling May 29 to December 31: with daily limit of two.
By Crittenden, allow two lures in addition to three hooks in trolling for striped bass.
