Full Text
The Legislature commences its annual session next Wednesday. It does not now occur to us that there is any thing of a public character which will be likely to give interest to its discussions, if we except the subject of locating the hospital for the insane. In this the design, the interest, and the public convenience and accommodation appears to have been entirely overlooked, and it is but just that the representatives of the people should have an opportunity to express their approbation or dissent from the proceedings as far as they have gone.
The election of a U. S. Senator may come up this session; yet we are inclined to the belief that it will be postponed to the winter Session. There are many interests and influences to favor such a disposition of the subject for the present. The leading and expectant partisans will be for a headlong course, while the passive adherents to the party will prefer to wait the result of the presidential election. That event is to have an important influence on the politics of the State,—with the people and with the Legislature.
