SOMETHING MYSTERIOUS.
We are requested by several respectable
persons to state, that on Wednesday the 2d
inst. there was found, dead, about half a
mile from the Cross Roads leading from
Winchester to Bath, and from Martinsburg
to Rumney and the Western Turnpike, a
valuable horse of the following description;
his color a dark iron grey, about 5 years old,
fifteen and half hands high, newly shod all
round. That the horse was killed there rests
not a doubt, as the stone with which the
act was perpetrated was found close by, &
bore evident marks of the correctness of this
conclusion; the horse was divested of both
saddle and bridle. The prevailing opinion
is, that his owner was murdered and robbed:
although no trace of murder, notwithstand-
ing the most diligent search was for several
days made, was discovered. Circumstan-
ces induce the belief that the unfortunate
person was either a Western Merchant, or
a Northern Collector.
Or Editors generally are requested to
insert the above paragraph.
