Ames, May 30. The Iowa State College is busily engaged in preparing to entertain the delegates and visitors who will be here from July 4 to July 29 to attend the meeting of the graduate school. This is its fourth session, and it bids fair to be the largest of any so far held. The first session was at the Ohio State University in 1902, the second took place at the University of Illinois in 1906 and the third at Cornell University in 1908.
At the last meeting there were present 164 students and seventy-eight lecturers and the enthusiasm ran high, both inside and outside the classrooms, where questions vital to the interests of agriculture were discussed.
Eight Lines of Study.
Instruction will be given in eight main lines-plant physiology and pathology, agronomy, horticuture, animal husbandry, poultry, dairying, rural engineering and rural economics will be given for the first time.
Four evenings will be devoted to college extension subjects. University extension in general will be discussed by Director Heber, University of Wisconsin, and President Sparks, of the Pennsylvania State College, and the state of agricultural extension in this country and abroad will be treated in a talk by Professor John Hamilton, of the United States department of agriculture.
Other speakers on the methods to be employed in introducing agriculture in the schools and extending the knowledge of it thruout the country will be by President Butterfield, Massachusetts, Dean Davenport, Illinois; Dean Hunt, Pennsylvania; President Soule, Georgia; Superintendent Miller, Kansas; Professor Christie, Indiana, and Professor Holden, Iowa. The subject of agricultural journalism will be taken up in Saturday conference.
Two Foreigners to Lecture.
Two lecturers will be here from abroad--Dr. E. von Tschermak, known widely for his investigations in the breeding of cereals and a faculty member of the Royal Imperial Agricultural College, Vienna, and Professor J. H. Ewart, known for his investigation of the principles of animal breeding, especially the influence of telegony, who is connected with the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland. The presence of the two foreigners will add much to the meetings.
Arrangements have been made to hold another session of the graduate school in home economics during the meeting of the graduate school.
