Event Details
Lord North intends to raise principal additional supplies next session by collecting the land-tax in England and Scotland upon the real, instead of the valued rents. A bill is preparing to be brought into Parliament for that purpose. It has been represented to Lord North that the present method is very unjust, with instances of gentlemen whose estates are low valued paying only six-pence a pound when neighbors pay two shillings. By this alteration the new taxes will be collected without any additional expense.
