Full Text

NEW YORK, July 21.

Extract of a letter from Niagara, July 1, 1768.

Two days ago the sloop Sansus Major Rogers arrived here, and the unfortunate woman his wife. He is to remain here till further orders, and I believe to be tried here; but she goes down very soon; she is really much to be pitied, but I believe him to be a great rascal.

We are informed by the way of Quebec, That Rogers’s design was, after having taken and plundered Detroit, and the Illinois, and carried the spoils to his accomplice Captain Hopkins, at New-Orleans, to have returned himself, and fallen upon New-England and Carolina, which he looked upon to be two of our richest provinces. This design he intended to have executed last spring, but was prevented by want of money, and other conveniences.
