BRITTON BACK FOR 13TH YEAR AS FIRE CHIEF
City Department Inducts Staff of Officers for 1936.

Members of the McAllen Volunteer Fire department formally installed new officers and observed "Ladies' Night" Tuesday night as one of the annual features of the department's organization. All members of the department, said to be the only completely uniformed volunteer fire department in Texas, were in full uniform for the occasion.

Chief C. H. Britton, head of the department for the past 12 years, was installed for his thirteenth consecutive year of work. First Assistant Chief W. F. (Bill) Cain was installed for his fourth year and Second Assistant Chief Alfred Myers was installed for his second year.

Officers Inducted
Company officers installed were: Co. No. 1, Hal Ramsey, captain, and Irwin Cameron, lieutenant; Co. No. 2, Raymond Virdell, captain, and Ernest Cameron, lieutenant; Co. No. 3, Wendell Robinson, captain, and Carl DuBois, lieutenant; Co. No. 4, Sid Purl Jr., captain, and Lee Stone, lieutenant.

Officials of the department's business organization who were also installed included Sid Purl Jr., president; P. S. Brown, vice president; John Stevens, treasurer; and Bill Butler, secretary.

Harry Merts, McAllen postmaster, was again installed as department chaplain. Junior Britton was installed once more as department mascot and Ed Lange was returned to his place as captain and instructor of the department's first aid squad. Sid Purl Sr. was installed as captain of the fire police squad.

Appointments Read
Chaplain Merts acted as installing officer and A. D. Dean as marshal of the installation. C. D. Martin, city secretary, represented the city commission at the ceremony.

Purl's appointees to standing committees included: house committee, Tom Mahone, chairman, Hunter Rodgers and Gaston Wiley; sick committee—Hal Ramsey, chairman, Harvey Hixson and Sid Purl Sr.; uniform committee—Ernest Cameron, chairman, A. D. Dean and Lee Stone.

Nearly 100 persons attended the ceremonies, which were held at the firemen's club rooms.
