The grand armament or the expedition will be five divisions. It is arranged in different manner from any which ever sailed from England. Particular duties are given to particular officers.
Three points are to be attacked first. Admiral Otway and sir Eyre Coote will make the attack upon one of them. It will be conducted in two different ways, according as the wind blows from the westward or the southward.
The marquis of Huntley and commodore Owen will attack another point, and we believe their attack will be the first that is made, because its success will enable our ships to go up the river. Sir John Hope and captain Plampin will attack the third point.
The success of this attack will enable us to get possession of a fourth point, by taking all its defence in reverse. Lord Gardner, with the fourth division, will in the mean time take an advantageous position. And admiral Keats and lord Rosslyn will, in the fifth division bring up the reserve.
LIVERPOOL, August 2.
THE EXPEDITION.
On Saturday morning a telegraphic despatch reached the admiralty, announcing that the last division of the expedition, under the command of adm. Otway, had sailed at five o'clock with a favorable wind. The first and second divisions sailed early on Friday morning, and were soon clear of the Downs.
The object of the expedition is, in the first instance the attack of the three islands of Cadsand, Walcheren, and Schouwen, which lie at the mouth of the Scheldt. The marquis of Huntley's division of the 6th, 50th 91st, 9th 38th, and 42d regiments, will attack Cadsand. The second division under sir John Hope, is destined for Schouwen and the north part of Walcheren. The operations against Walcheren will be committed to sir Eyre Coote. Flushing and Middleburg are both situated on the latter island
Government, it is said, have accounts from Flushing to Saturday last; the garrison of the place did not exceed one thousand men, consisting of Spaniards, Dutch Irish, and a few French.
