BOSTON. March 1.
There are many people who frequently read news papers, without attending to the word News, or the idea it ought to furnish us with. In the first place, as news comes from all parts of the terraqueous globe, so the very word itself clearly points out to us, viz. N. North. E. East. W. West. S. South: so that no language in the world can furnish us with a title more expressive. Again, when seriously considered, it recommends to us the practice of the four following virtues, viz. Nobleness in our thoughts, Equity in our dealings, Wisdom in our conduct, and Sobriety in our lives.
The following is Sir William Temple's short character of the Dutch; how far they are degenerated since his days, it is not easy to judge. "Natives of Holland (says he) are ants in oeconomy; grasshoppers on the sea; in self-preservation cautious as the hare; in manufactures, like the spider, work out of their own bowels. One maxim by which they have throve, is, small beginnings are speedily increased by forecast, industry, and frugality."
