NEW YORK. April 25.—The blowing of the horns in Philadelphia and New York this morning, will be the signal for the opening of the great metropolitan coaching venture. At 8 o'clock two coaches, maintained by private gentlemen for public service, will start simultaneously—one from the Waldorf hotel in this city, and the other from the Stratford hotel, in Philadelphia—the first to run through to Philadelphia and the latter to New York. The distance is exactly ninety miles. The time to be consumed is eleven hours. This will be the longest regular coach route in the world, and the experiment is looked forward to with the greatest interest by all directly or indirectly interested in the sport of the road and the handling and breeding of road horses.
The idea originated in the Suburban Road Coaching club, of Philadelphia, a small company of gentlemen of such true sporting proclivities as to have made Philadelphia rather more of a coaching headquarters today than New York. They are Messrs Edward Browning, Rittenhouse Miller, Harrison K. Caner, Nelson Brown and Colonel Edward Morrell.
