MONEY AND CHECKS DESTROYED BY FIRE
SMYRNA, Del., July 18.—Several hundred dollars in checks and money orders, sent by Philadelphia and Chester commission houses to fruit growers, were burned when fire destroyed the combined store, postoffice and dwelling of John D. Stellar, near Taylor's Landing. In addition, money and checks in the cash drawers, worth $200, also were lost. Two clerks and a group of men, who were talking in the store, did not know that the house was on fire, and had to run through a sheet of flames when the latter spread to the store. Stellar and his family were absent. It is believed the fire was caused by a defective flue.
