Full Text

Lord Nelson's Cabin Companion,
a genuine anecdote.

PREVIOUS to this Christian Hero's last departure from London, he called, with his lady, at a bookseller's shop in St. Paul's Churchyard, to purchase a family bible; on his presenting a bill in payment, the bookseller requested his name and signature: on being informed it was Nelson, he directly apologized, and did not refrain expressing himself happy at seeing a religious tendency in our great naval commanders.
"Mr. R." replied the gallant Admiral, laying his hand upon the bible, "I never sail without one as my cabin companion."
