Jaycee President Clive Banfield left today for Miami Beach to attend the finals and coronation of the 1962 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.
Kenneth Oka, Mayor of Miami Beach extended an invitation to both Governor Ralph Paiewonsky and the president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce to be his guests in Miami for the beauty extravaganza.
Governor Paiewonsky was unable to make the trip and named Banfield to represent the islands and take with him a gift of Virgin Islands rum to be presented to Mayor Oka.
In order to ensure that Miss Virgin Islands, Juanita Monell, gets maximum publicity coverage for the islands before her return, Commerce Commissioner Henry Kimelman communicated with Hal Leyshon Associates who handles public relations for the Virgin Islands and was assured that their Miami office will work closely with Banfield.
Both Governor Paiewonsky and Clive Banfield attended last year's Miss Universe Pageant and returned with high praise for the manner in which the international pageant was conducted.
There are men who would jump out of their graves if they could see the bathing-suits being worn by their granddaughters in 1962.
