Says a Correspondent :

There will be great convulsions in Europe in the course of a few ensuing months: what may be the event, perhaps no one can exactly foretell or foresee : it will no doubt be something great and astonishing. England is preparing a great naval force-setting herself in battle array ; France is doing the same. Greater exertions are now making, it is said, by these governments, than were ever before made; and soon they will make a decisive stroke. How the other powers of Europe are affected, and what part they will act-who can tell? Russia may perhaps come down with her Myrmidons on the good-cause French, and perhaps overrun them, as the Goths and Vandals did Rome formerly: he may bring with her the Poles. How France, good France, may stand all these united powers, at the next crisis- who can say? She has stood manfully yet-but who can prescribe to Providence ? Who knows what circumstances may not exist, that may be a cause of overwhelming that country ? But in the mean time let us hope for the best. However, this, I believe, we may be, and are all pretty unanimously assured of : that the pride of Britain will receive a stroke. It has long I believe been acknowledged, that this is a proud nation ; but from the perfect unjustifiableness of the present contest, from the indignities she is offering to a neutral nation-need I name the nation she will experience a downfall for these repeated injuries. Go on, thou blinded, thou perverted nation ; but beware you meet not with condign punishment. Some grand word of destruction is hovering o'er you, and it hangs perchance but by a single thread :--that thread is the small particle left you of good manners and justice to other nations :- how small that thread is, we can all determine.
