Full Text

A Double Sop.—No one among the apostates from federalism has come in for a larger share of Executive favor than William Pinkney.—Immediately on his professing himself a democrat, Mr. Madison appointed him Attorney General of the United States: and now, as a further reward, he has, it is stated, the double appointment of minister to Russia and minister extraordinary to the Court of Naples. The double outfits in this case will give

Eighteen thousand dollars,

in addition to the salary of

Nine thousand dollars a year.

There is many a "turn-coat" in Massachusetts, who were once as loud advocates for federalism as Mr. Pinkney formerly was, and now are as bitter democrats as he is, that would jump to possess half the good luck which is showered down upon this recent favorite: particularly should they not succeed in their calculations of getting a lucrative office in the contemplated "State of Maine."
