Hollywood to Get
Her Face Lifted
HOLLYWOOD, (P)--Hollywood has decided on a nine million dollar face lifting.
The movie capital plans colored sidewalks on Hollywood Boulevard from Gower to La Brea Avenues, and on Vine Street from Sunset Boulevard to Yucca Street.
There will be bronze plaques of movie stars in the concrete squares, searchlights atop every street light and colored searchlights at intersections.
"We mean to make Hollywood the brightest place in the world," says Lorne B. Pratt, executive secretary of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
The bill for the transformation will be paid by the business establishments on the streets affected, provided the Los Angeles city council approves assessments under a 44-year-old law.
Strollers will be able to walk over the imprint of Bing Crosby's face and Jimmy Durante's hat.
Spaces in the sidewalk will be reserved for movie stars of the future.
