DINED WITH CLEVELAND.

Negro Guests at White House Brought Up in Congressional Debate.

During the consideration of the District of Columbia appropriation bill in the house Monday, Mr. Scott, of Kansas, made the declaration that a negro had dined at the white house with President Cleveland. The statement was prompted by a reference by Mr. Gilbert, of Kentucky, to the dining of Booker T. Washington at the white house. Mr. Gilbert said he had never heard of the incident, and when the name was demanded Mr. Scott said it was C. H. J. Taylor.
