Full Text
Noticing the diseases of that city this summer Doctor Ricketson of New York, in noticing the greatest part of the bills of mortality past mentions the diarrhoea infantum as filling fifty. He highly recommends a country air and, as a medicine, a berry which is not noticed in any botanical work, but which is very common in the northern states: whether they grow in the middle or southern states, the writer of this article is not aware. In New England they are called the choke-cherry: they grow in pasture and low grounds; are about the size of the common wild-cherry, and are extremely astringent. Taken green, dry, or a tincture of them, they generally operate a cure.
