A letter from a gentleman in Annapolis, to his friend in Philadelphia, dated Nov. 1, 1787, says, "I have just time to inform you of an unfortunate affair which happened a few miles from this place. It was a duel between your old acquaintance Mr. William Hill, from Philadelphia, and Mr. George Moore, of the Eastern Shore of Maryland; Mr. Moore fired first, without effect. Mr. Hill returned the fire without effect likewise: Mr. Moore fired again, the ball scraped the side of Mr. Hill's face. Mr. Hill then returned the fire, and lodged the contents of his pistol in Mr. Moore's breast, who was immediately carried off the ground. Mr. Hill thought proper to make a precipitate retreat, and has not since been heard of."
