FRUITLESS ATTACK BY JAPS.

Japanese Fleet Bombards Vladivostok, but Reported to Have Done No Damage.

Vladivostok, March 7.-A fleet of five Japanese battleships and two cruisers appeared off this place yesterday afternoon and bombarded the town and shore batteries for fifty-five minutes. The fleet did not approach a closer range than a mile and one third. They directed their fire against the shore battery and town but no damage resulted as most of their two hundred lyddite shells failed to burst. The Russian batteries did not reply.
