Extract of a letter from Amsterdam, May 9.
We have no hopes at present of a reconciliation between the Court of Great-Britain and their High Mightinesses. They seemed determined here to carry on the war with vigor; in every dock yard belonging to the States, men of war, frigates, and other armed ships are building, and those that were out of repair were fitting for sea as fast as possible, and according to appearance, there will be a great number of privateers at sea in a short time. Shipwrights from all parts are employed; but the bulk of people are for a peace, for I assure you, the many captures the English have made, with the loss of St. Eustatia, have occasioned great havock among the merchants and others.
