FROM LOWER RIVER
The members of the court party were returning passengers on the steamer Yukon last night, enroute from the Iditarod direct to the headquarters of the division at Fairbanks. The party consisted of Chief Deputy Marshal Joe Miller, Deputy Clerk of Court Frank B. Hall, Court Stenographer E. T. Wolcott, Mrs. Emma Haggren, Miss Ella Knudsen, and Louis K. Pratt. Judge Bunnell came on ahead of the party, having reached Fairbanks several days ago and left for the coast to relieve Judge Brown of the Third division for the remainder of the summer.
A short session of court was held at Ruby on the way down river early in the summer, and the remainder of the season was spent at Flat, where a considerable number of civil matters occupied the time of the court. Only two criminal cases were tried. Judge Bunnell mushed across from Iditarod to McGrath, in the Kuskokwim country, accompanied by Deputy Marshal Miller and another member of the party. And it was the intention of the judge to go up the Koyukuk, returning overland by way of the Chandler, but his plans were upset by the summons from the coast. Frank Maki, a prisoner, is accompanying the party from Iditarod.
