Missionary To Uganda To Speak Here Oct. 9

The Women of St. Peter's Episcopal Church have extended an invitation to interested persons to attend the meeting to be held Tuesday, Oct. 9 when the Rev. J. Seymour Flinn will be the guest speaker.

A service in the church at 8 p.m. will precede the program in the parish house. Mrs. Spencer R. Quick is program chairman.

Mr. Flinn is serving as missionary to Mbale, Uganda, East Africa and is at home on leave. His work in Uganda is three-fold: work in the parish of Mbale, the third largest town in the country, among Luganda and English-speaking people, but with particular responsibility for the English service under the rectorship of an African priest; training of ordinands; and development of a community center which serves also as a conference center for the diocese and parish.

Mr. Flinn was born in Wilmington where he was graduated from Friends School. He was graduated in 1949 at Princeton University with an A. B. degree in English.

He spent two years in Liberia for the National Council of the Protestant Episcopal Church as teacher at the Episcopal High School, Robertsport, Cape Mount. He returned to the states and in 1954 graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary ordained as deacon, assigned to the Diocese of Delaware to start a new mission on the outskirts of Wilmington. Thus he became Vicar of St. David's Brandywine Hundred in 1954, and rector two years later. In June of 1959 he resigned to become missionary to Mbale, Uganda, East Africa.

Though under the appointment of the National Council, Mr. Flinn's support has come mainly from the Diocese of Delaware, which has been interested in Uganda since the Anglican Congress in 1954, when the Bishop of the then Diocese of Upper Nile passed through Delaware on his way back to Africa.
