A communication from Dr. Ramsey, the historian of South Carolina, says, there are now living in that state a woman 110 years of age one man 107, another 102, and another 100-a Mrs. Lane, who walks ten miles to church, of 95-and a couple, who have been joined in the connubial state sixty-six years, the one 92 and the other 91 years of age.-Since 1800 there have died, one of 112, one of 108, one of 104, and a clergyman of 100 ; three above 90 and five above 87 years of age,
Northern people have generally imbibed the idea that the southern states were very unhealthy that old age was seldom known south-of the Potomack. This errour has grown from our immediate communication being confined principally to the sea ports, whose situation is extremely uncongenial to the health of our northern constitutions--as Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, New-Orleans,etc.
The above communication establishes the fact that the interior of those states is better adapted to the native constitutions of their inhabitants than is the climate of New-England.
Consumptions, which annually carry so many to an early grave, are said to be less frequent there than here. [N.H. Patriot.]
