Full Text
On the arraignment this afternoon of Sid Blumenthal, advertising agent for the Columbia theater, on a charge of being a disorderly person, the police claim they have uncovered a clever trick that resulted in the loss of $300 owned by Mollie Dougherty, that she had secreted in a teapot in her room in the Yale block.
Immediately following the arrest of Blumenthal Etta Dunn was placed under arrest at the Omo block and Captain Coverly arrested Frank Cavinness and Jess McGee, two gamblers from Lewiston, Idaho, at the Darby saloon on Riverside avenue.
The case of robbery does not seem clear against Blumenthal, but the police are of the opinion that they can place the blame upon the shoulders of Cavinness and McGee, and therefore they have only charged the advertising agent with being a disorderly person.
When Blumenthal first came to Spokane he brought with him recommendations from detectives at Portland, Ore. According to the police, Etta Dunn, accompanied by Blumenthal, Cavinness, McGee and Mollie Dougherty, went to the Brook saloon on Front avenue and Wall street and while there told Cavinness of the cache the Dougherty woman had for her money. It is suspected that while the others entertained Mollie Dougherty, one of the men got the money. The police are proceeding along these lines.
The cases were set for July 30.
