Full Text

James J. Hill is in the east and stopped in Washington long enough to put in a little good advice on the subject of legislating against pleuropneumonia. Mr. Hill called attention to the fact that it recently cost Australia $90,000,000 and England $60,000,000 to stamp out the disease, and thought that this would not be a circumstance to what it would cost this country should this deadly disease get a good hold on the stock here. Mr. Hill would not allow his $30,000 worth of blooded stock killed at Quebec last June, but is having them kept at his expense. He thinks it will be shown that they are free from the disease. He wants them kept there, however till there is no doubt about the question. The plan is to destroy all stock thus afflicted and have the government pay the loss.
