Yesterday James Miller Elliott was arraigned at the bar, before a court of Enquiry, composed of five of the county Magistrates, for having knowingly uttered forged bills of the Bank of the United States.

After hearing the evidences, both in behalf of the prisoner and on the part of the commonwealth, the attorney for the defendant did not conceive it necessary to urge a word in his defence, from the satisfactory nature of the testimony in his favour; and the court remanded Elliott to prison, and ordered him for further trial in the District Court at Dumfries.
