Full Text
The President's proclamation, of which copious extracts will be found in this day's Advocate, is a document of vital interest to the nation. It unfolds to the nation, the views held by the President in relation to the confederation of the States, and in our opinion, elucidates the national league, or compact, in a manner so clear, as to disprove satisfactorily the views of Mr. Calhoun, the great chieftain of nullification. Had these views of the President been spread before the public two years sooner, it is hardly probable that the present excitement of the people of South Carolina, would have been elicited, nor that the champions of nullification would have had the hardihood to advance the views which are now distracting that patriotic State.
