BOSTON, August 1.

The news from Europe reaches us with progressive, though snail-like pace. We give this day, London dates, by arrivals at Halifax and New-York, a few days later than before received.

The series of Imperial successes are as uninterrupted, and their aspect as brilliant, as those of Buonaparte were on the same theatre, in 1797. Ere this, it is highly probable, every Frenchman's foot, from the North to the Mediterranean seas, has made impressions within his native boundaries, with its toes inwards.

The capture of Genoa, heretofore announced on the credit of report, is now established on official reliability.

Of General Macdonald's army—if its destruction is not authentically pronounced; its fate is almost as certain as hopes and wishes have anticipated; and his name will speedily be consigned to the oblivion of Jourdan's, or to the ignominy which is attached to Schérer's.

The French once had an army denominated the "Army of England." The English, it seems, are preparing a force, which speedily may justly be called the "Army in Holland." They certainly possess the nerves and tendons of war; for although the current expenses of 1799 are estimated at thirty millions sterling, so popular is the war against France, that Mr. Pitt can raise this, and much larger sums, with as much apparent facility, as though he were master of the mines of Peru or Brazil; or had found the long-sought Philosopher's stone.

Sweden enters on the belligerent stage in the fifth act—She is perhaps, solicitous of sharing in the honors of the denouement; and of assisting to close the drama with applause.
