Full Text

A COUNTY WORK HOUSE.

Major Rose, determined to ascertain whether the people of Union county desire the erection of a work house, yesterday offered a resolution, (which was adopted.) leaving the entire matter in the hands of the people, who will be called upon to vote either for or against the work house at the next election.

This action is perfectly proper, and of course no one can complain. The people are to be left entirely free in the matter. If a work house is necessary or expedient, (and we think it is,) the taxpayers will be very apt to vote in favor of its erection-if they decide it unnecessary, that will be the end of the matter. We commend the good sense of Major Rose, and the board in this matter. It is refreshing, in these days of corruption, to occasionally find public officials paying some attention to the wishes of the people, who certainly are to be freely consulted in this case.
