FOR RACIAL
BIAS IN ISRAEL

The basis for racial segregation in the South seemed to hold little significance for a group visiting here from Israel recently.

A Town Hall Mission under the direction of Clifford Dancer, two women, one an anthropologist the other a teacher of English at the Hebrew University in Israel were in Atlanta last week in the interest of studying race relations and observing some of the programs designed to advance the South.

Mrs. Shulamith Nordi who teaches English at the Hebrew University in Israel is a native of Brooklyn But during the past few years has been working in Israel,

Mrs. Phyllis Palgi the anthropologist is an advisor of the Ministry of her country. She was born in South Africa.

Both women were given travel grants through the Town Hall Mission in New York to travel and study in the United States for three months. The program is part of the 63 year old organization's work to promote.

The visitors said they are getting agreement between the Arabs and Jews in their country. There is no problem of color they say.

are 180,000 Arabs and 120,000 Jews many who have migrated from parts of Europe and Africa.

There are Arabs in Parliament the same as Jews, they say. In that part of the country they don't tolerate color, a spokesman said.

"The people of Israel are interested in the outside world," a spokesman added.

One of the most interesting observations in this country, Mrs Palgi said is the advancement made by Negroes themselves.

She said the progress here is simply "marvelous."
