This week's television fare got underway with a couple of better than usual shows Sunday night and you can count yourself a loser if you missed them.

Stan Freberg's salute to Chinese New Year was one of the season's high spots in comedy. Freberg, who says he was forced out of television by the hard-sell business of Madison ave., is spending most of his time now making soft-sell humorous commercials, for people like Chun King, the company which makes chow mein as its specialty.

Sunday's show was sponsored by Chun King and was almost an hour-long commercial for the company. Interspersed throughout were a number of satirical sketches and situations.

Freberg, with these kinds of ideas, should be around more often.

Winding up the evening was the Dupont Show of the Week, "The Forgery," in which Arthur Kennedy showed he's still one of the best actors around. The show was a dramatization of a novel about an artist who fooled all of Holland with his forgeries of Vermeer masterpieces.

With more shows such as these two, nobody could describe television as a "vast wasteland."
