THAT RUMORED OUTBREAK.

The City Councils Investigation-
Ex-Mayor Jennings Talks Awhile,
and Then Another Committee Is
Appointed.

The invitation extended through last
night's Democrat to all who might know
anything regarding the rumors that are
afloat affecting the peace and safety of
the city was not responded to by the citizens. The purpose of this meeting according
to the words of the Mayor's invitation,
was to give an investigation of said rumors the broadest possible scope.

Judging from the number who accepted
the call of the Mayor and honored the
Council with their presence, they are few
and far between who know anything concerning the rumors. There were not to
exceed two dozen at the meeting this
morning.

The only one who made any remarks
was ex-Mayor Jennings. Mr. Jennings
said, in substance, that he had been
in Utah for many years, and that at
the present time he owned as much
property in this city as most
any other man. He had as much at
stake as any man. His business required
him to be around all the time, and among
all classes of people. He had heard of
various rumors affecting the peace and
safety of the inhabitants of the city, but
had seen absolutely nothing for a foundation of the rumors. He did not think
any existed. There is no danger of an
outbreak.

After Mr. Jennings got through with
his remarks, a motion was made to appoint a committee to make a report as to
the result of the investigations made in
this and previous meetings held for the
same purpose. The motion was carried
without a dissenting vote, and the committee was selected. It is composed as
follows: Alderman Dean, chairman;
Councilmen Grant, Clark, Weber and
Stringfellow, with Mayor Sharp and City
Attorney Richards associated. The committee is to report at a meeting this
evening, unless one is called by the
Mayor before night.
