The poor vice consul of Spain, at Morocco, was tied to the tail of a wild ass, which, with this poor miserable man at his heels, was hunted till he became furious; and from this situation the consul was taken, only to be hanged. The Emperor said it was not consistent with the etiquette of his Court to hang him in effigy.
The Emperor of Morocco did not make a general massacre of the Jews. He delivered over their effects to pillage; and that their race might be no longer distinct, he ordered his soldiery to violate their wives and daughters. A Jew of the name of Arad, the favourite of the late Emperor, he condemned to lose his arms and legs, and then to be thrown into the fire. After all, says our correspondent, the reign of Muley El Zezed has begun more moderately than that of his august and respectable father.
