The Grangers and the Board of Trade.

The Directors of the Board of Trade met at the rooms at 12 Saturday for the purpose of taking into consideration the matter of the location of the National Grange and receiving the report of the Committee appointed to take action in the matter; Secretary J. T. Blackburn read the report of the majority of the Committee, stating that their views were not in accordance with resolutions and declining to take any action in the premises. This report was published Friday. The following communication from Mr. Josiah Kirby, Chairman of the Committee, was read:

Cincinnati, July 3d, 1875.

To the President and Board of Directors of the Board of Trade of Cincinnati:

Gentlemen: Having been appointed Chairman of the Committee in pursuance of a resolution passed by your board on the 26th of June last for the purpose of communicating with the Special Committee of the Patrons of Husbandry in relation to establishing their headquarters at Cincinnati, I desire to state in an official manner that on the meeting of your Committee at the rooms of your Board at 10 A. M. of the 2d instant, we were informed by the Secretary, C. B. Murray, Esq., of the Chamber of Commerce, that the Committee appointed by the Chamber understood the instructions to be to act directly in the premises, and not as a joint committee representing both Boards, and that they would forward the invitation of the Chamber of Commerce through their Secretary, and asked to be excused as a part of your Committee. This action upon the part of the Board of Officers of the Chamber of Commerce acting as a Committee, has rendered your Committee incompetent to act, it having been appointed and instructed to act as a joint committee of the two bodies. The Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce has since performed their part of the work of invitation in the most intelligent and respectful manner, and it is only to be regretted that the misunderstanding has prevented your Committee from joining in the communication and thus to have settled the whole matter, but as the case now stands we have to refer the subject to you for further action. In conclusion I desire to say that the Chamber of Commerce of Cincinnati is entitled to and ought to receive the highest praise from the entire community for their intelligent and prompt action in this emergency. Without endorsing or disputing the views of the Patrons of Husbandry, they have magnanimously offered the liberties of a free city to a free people to come among us to buy and sell and transact business, and to rely on their own merits for their success or failure.

Yours respectfully,

JOSIAH KIRBY.

Mr. Kirby's letter was ordered filed; the former Committee was discharged, and without appointing a new one the Board adjourned, after resolving to close the Board of Trade rooms on the 4th.
