EMIGRANTS TO HAYTI.

The ship Armata has been chartered at this port to take out three hundred emigrants for Hayti. That compliment was immediately made up, and forty or fifty applications above that number were rejected, as the vessel did not afford accommodations for more. This emigration consists of some of the most respectable colored people in this place, many of whom have left wives, children and families in Baltimore, with an intention of revisiting this place early in the spring, and returning with them if their expectations are realized. We are assured that this is but the vanguard of a still more numerous emigration early in the Spring, if the present prospects should then prove equally suspicious.

The name of St. Domingo is abandoned by the inhabitants of that Republic for that of Hayti, or the land of mountains—the original appellation given to that Island from the mountainous character of the country. The diseases so fatal to many Europeans and Americans result in a great measure from intemperance, and a premature exposure to the nocturnal dews. The President, Boyer, is familiar, frank, plain and accessible; attentive to every branch of political economy; overseeing with his own eyes, rewarding merit with his own hands, and is both beloved and respected by the inhabitants. Justice is fairly, promptly and impartially administered, and the government may, in the strictest sense, be denominated paternal. In some of their civil institutions the Haytians are in advance of all other governments, and it would not be beneath the dignity of the proudest European monarch to reform some of the branches of his administration on the model furnished by Hayti.
