What is this article about?
Rev. W. Cornelius Barnes argues that the supreme test of salvation is one's love for Jesus Christ, as per 1 Corinthians 16:22. He urges readers to examine if their actions reflect genuine affection for Christ, beyond mere church activities or moral living, warning that lack of love means being accursed.

THE SUPREME TEST
By Rev. W. Cornelius Barnes
Thousands of people who seem satisfied with their hope of salvation give no evidence whatever of a scriptural foundation. All are saved who have been born again into the family of God. All others are lost. All are saved who have realized that they are sinners, that no sin can ever enter the presence of God, that Christ Jesus put away their sin, and have accepted Him as their Savior and Lord. All others are lost.
But how may we know if we are saved or lost? What is the supreme test?
RELATIONSHIP TO CHRIST.
If any man love not our Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed I Corinthians 16:22. If you love the Lord Jesus Christ you are saved. If you do not you are lost. We did not say you must love the Lord Jesus Christ in order to be saved, but if you have been saved by faith in Him (and there is no other way). then you will love Him.
We are not caring now about any experience you have ever had. You may have been "converted," joined "a" church, been baptized lived a good moral life. given of your money in abundance and never have heard of the Lord Jesus Christ or if you have never been seriously concerned about Him.
We are interested in just one thing now, the only thing worth being interested in--your relationship to Christ. If any man love not our Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed."
You say, "Of course, I love Him." Let us see if you do. Did you ever hear of anyone loving another person and seldom or never speaking about them? Do you love to think about the Lord Jesus and talk about Him to others? How much do you do it?
Did you ever know anyone to love another person and not care to learn about him and get better acquainted with him? Are you seeking to learn all you can about the Lord Jesus Christ, and to make Him a personal friend? Really?
I did not ask if you read your Bible. and prayed. I did not ask if you went to church and taught a Sunday school class. You might do all these things and have no interest whatever in the Lord Jesus Christ. "If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ. let him be accursed."
Remember, dear reader, that Christ is not only the Saviour. but the Salvation. He is all God has to offer you for Time and Eternity.
Did you ever hear of anyone loving another person and not caring to learn what he liked, and to do it? How much time are you spending in learning what pleases the Lord Jesus, and then doing it?
I did not ask how much church work or social service you are doing. If you love Him you will be constantly asking if the things you are doing are just what He commanded and you will not care about anything else. You will ask yourself unconsciously: "Will this please Him?" Think of your experience with others you love and see if this is not true .Apply this test and be honest with yourself. A thousand times better acknowledge now that you do not love Him and receive Him as your Saviour and Lord than to go on hoping for the best when God solemnly says: If any man love not our Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed."
