Postoffice Inspector To Look Into Matter of Improving Local Office.
A United States postoffice inspector will arrive in the city this week and look at the thing they call a postoffice here. After he has taken in the surroundings he will return to Washington and report whether it will be best or not to reduce the lobby's space to make more room in the interior, where the clerks are now hard pressed for space. The average postoffice visitor will not kick if the visiting official reports that the partition ought to come a few feet further toward Weybosset street, as per request of Postmaster Hayward. The advantage to those on the outside will be a shorter journey to the place where infrequent visitors stop and read signs before they feel reasonably sure that they have dropped their letters in the right slot.
