Editors Herald: As there seems to be some doubt in the minds of some of the taxpayers of Lincoln county in regard to Judge Trescott's views on the railroad bond question, I take the liberty through the Herald to give a plain and unbiased expression of the Judge's views on that subject.

Judge Trescott has always been, and is now, opposed to the payment of those bonds, either interest or principal, if it can be avoided by lawful means. He has always been free and outspoken against the payment of the bonds from their first inception. His interest is identified with the taxpayers of this county. He has no interest directly or indirectly in these bonds. At the January term of the county court, Judge Trescott had nothing to do in effecting the compromise through McKee, Norton & Co. That agreement was entered into between Judge Mudd, on the part of the bond-holders, and the township committee on the part of the taxpayers, they (the committee) believing at the time that to accept the proposition of Judge Mudd was the best they could do under the circumstances, and Judge Trescott, believing that the committee represented the interest of the people, reluctantly acceded to the proposition; hence he should not be held responsible for their acts. By justice to Judge Trescott, the committee should make a public statement through the Herald in vindication of the charges that the Judge is held responsible for by the people. If any of the parties to the compromise are misrepresented in these simple statements, I would be pleased to hear from them through the Herald, as I do not desire to place any one in false position.
