Full Text
Dr. Eads,—This notorious democratic official has passed through the hands of an Investigating Committee, and their report when published will exhibit the most daring corruption, the most unscrupulous knavery ever yet practiced by any officer within the limits of Iowa. That his political coadjutors have done everything in their power—amounting in reality to absolute forgery, in order to bring him out right, is most glaring on the whole transaction. But it is impossible to hide what was done under the impression that the next legislature, which was expected to be democratic, would smooth it all over. We opine that the present legislature will not smother the publication of the report. We are assured by the various members, that nothing but want of time saved him from impeachment, as the grounds were ample for so doing. But as nothing would result from it but the imprisonment of the poor devil, doing no one good, they contented themselves with getting from him all the money which could be saved to the State, and letting him go. If he will fill his bloated carcass with whiskey and publicly sport his prostitutes, they thought he should do so without expense to the State. So think we.—Ft. Des Moines Citizen.
