One of the great advantages of having silage is that a uniform supply of feed can be kept on hand throughout the year. The experience of good feeders has demonstrated that silage can be kept for more than a year and be identical in feeding value with silage of but a few months in age. One feeder says that when he has silage left in the bottom of his silo and fills in on top of it with new silage, at time of feeding there is no difference between the two. This fact being established, it becomes possible for the feeder to make provision for the years of small corn crops, if he have abundant silo room. A big supply of silage in a year when feed is scarce means an increased income.
