The Globe-Republican.
Ex-republican papers, such as the Topeka Capital and St. Louis Globe-Democrat, which have been converted to Cleveland's contraction ideas, now have the sublime assurance to tell their readers that Cleveland is and always has been a republican on financial questions. The A. N. Kellogg Newspaper Co. which provides ready printed 'insides' or 'outsides' to weekly newspapers agreed to make them in accordance with the politics of the papers supplied. In doing so they have been pretending to send to this paper matter suitable to republican ideas, but we observe this publishing house has become so imbued with gold bug ideas that it also falls down and worships Cleveland. Last week our insides from the above mentioned source contained several extracts from the St. Louis Globe-Democrat holding forth the idea that Mr. Cleveland is a republican on financial matters. Mr. Cleveland is and has been for twelve years the democratic party personified. Three times that organization has made him its standard bearer. He is the supreme high priest and perpetual dictator. Any one who approves of Cleveland endorses democracy, and is entitled to sit in the councils of that organization. The Capital and Globe-Democrat can follow the standard of democracy if they choose, but the Globe-Republican desires to keep as far away from that camp as possible, and since Kellogg's republican ready prints are devoted to the pastime of lauding Mr. Cleveland to the skies we beg leave to be excused from using them. It is about as consistent to hold Cleveland up as a republican as it would be for his satanic majesty to pose as an angel of light.
The only honest course republican journals can take who fall in love with Cleveland, would be to announce that they have joined the democrats and not sail under false colors any longer.
