THE RETURN OF DR. COOK.

That indefatigable explorer Dr. Cook, as dauntless as Tartarin, as determined as Don Quixote, and as romantic as Marco Polo, has returned to New York after another of his extraordinary voyages of discovery. It is from the haunts of the wild man of Borneo that our doctor brings his most eagerly awaited tidings. He is to come back with the interesting information that men of the far-off, fearsome creatures of another hemisphere are blond and all of them quite tame. Strangely enough, Dr. Cook does not assert that he has ascended the summit of Mount Everest, a point we believe which has not yet been touched by the foot of man, not even that of Rear Admiral Robert E. Peary. The English government, at least that portion of it stationed at Calcutta, asked Dr. Cook permission to make the trial, or Dr. Cook says it did. In fact, the most exciting adventure that this intrepid seeker of undiscovered lands can lay claim to, after this his fruitful, world-beguiling expeditions, the crossing of Siberia on the Trans-Siberian railroad.
