The Sidney, Wash., Independent is authority for the statement that the people of that community witnessed two well defined eruptions of the Olympic mountains on Thursday at 9 a. m. and 2 p. m. United States Engineer White witnessed both disturbances, and said: "The first eruption was especially clear and defined. The second was not so long noticed, as a high wind was blowing, and the smoke was swept away as it issued from the crater. On the 16th of this month there was a slight earthquake felt in Sidney. The shock there was so distinctly forcible as to shake the fixtures in the business houses of the town." Let Mount Rainier return the salute.
