Grasshoppers Scarce.
According to reports from those who have gone over the ground thoroughly, grasshoppers are fewer in field and meadow than ever before. This is attributed to the late spring cold snap, which brought blessings as well as blights in its wake. Warm weather preceding had warmed the eggs into life and the cold then killed the young insects. In consequence of this grain and grasses are untouched by the hungry hoppers, and only the small boy who striveth for fish, regrets the scarcity.—John Day News.
