There is a growing disposition among manufacturers to cut loose from the great cities, when practicable, as sites for manufacturing establishments, in order to escape high taxes, and more particularly the disturbing influence of city life upon the working men. It was a noticeable fact that in the great strikes of the spring, the movement was confined to the larger cities, workmen in the smaller towns remaining at their posts through all the excitement. The reason probably was, workmen in the smaller cities escape the harangues of unreasonable leaders largely, and are as a rule more contented, because most own their houses and are able to live better and save money on the wages which apparently do not keep city hands comfortable. It is believed Ottawa could take note of these facts to her advantage, and by the exercise of a liberal spirit draw to herself more than one concern that would aid to her wealth and population. There is now an offer of a wreath factory, the owners of which are in communication with Dr. J. O. Harts. We do not happen to know anything of the town or of the men, but the subject is worth investigation. It is a vocation that looks very inviting, for it is a fact that if it succeeds have been known to prove failures as money makers
