MARYLAND STATE TEMPERANCE CONVENTION.

We noticed the proceedings of the morning session of the above association yesterday. The Convention re-assembled in the afternoon and the Committee appointed yesterday to draft resolutions, consisting of Rev'd. Messrs Phelps, Collins, Cross, Dr. Snodgrass, Christian Keener and F. A Schaffer, reported the following:

Resolved, That a Committee of five be appointed to prepare an address to the ministers and churches of all denominations in the State on the necessity of their united and cordial co-operation for the revival and advancement of the temperance cause.

That a committee of three be appointed to prepare an address to appeal to the intelligence and moral sense of the citizens of Maryland, urging upon them the necessity of steady and constant co-operation with the friends of Temperance to secure the passage of a law leaving the question of license or no license to the decision of the people at any general or special election, and that this Committee be further directed to embody information of the direct cost of the license law to the people of Maryland.

That we recommend that a convention be held in this city, commencing on the 3rd Wednesday in November, to take such measures for the better promotion of the Temperance cause as they may deem expedient and to secure the passage of the bill, which has been for years before the Legislature, relative to the license laws of this State, to be composed of delegates from all the Temperance Societies in this State, and that all ministers of the Gospel be requested to attend as delegates.

That the Legislature which permits by law a traffic which produces poverty with all its sufferings, which corrupts the morals and destroys the health and lives of thousands of the community, defeats the great and important end for which government was established.

The Rev. Messrs. Cross, Collins, Hildt, Purviance, and Trapnall were appointed the Committee to carry out the object of the first resolution; and the Rev. Messrs. Kepler and Cross, and C. Keener, Esq, that of the second resolution.

A resolution was offered by Dr. Snodgrass, recommending those favorable to the cause of temperance to forego their political predilections and pledge themselves to vote for no man who was not favorable to a reformation of the License Laws. A good deal of discussion grew out of this and after being modified several times was finally negatived. Some other unimportant business was transacted when the convention adjourned sine die.—Baltimore Patriot.
