We learn that our ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, Col. Swan, and the Middletown Volunteers, Capt. Greene, will attend the Review. The following notice and official document appeared in the Providence Journal of Monday.
Letters of invitation have been forwarded by the Committee of Arrangements to all the Companies and field and Staff Officers that compose the "Rhode Island Line." If any fail of their destination, the Commandants and Officers will consider themselves invited, and return answers to the following circular which has been forwarded them:
Providence, August 29, 1842.
The Committee appointed by the citizens of this city, respectfully invite you and your command, to partake (as guests) in the Military Festival and Review, on the 10th of September next, in this city. His Excellency the Governor will review in person, all the Militia assembled on that occasion. A steamer will start from Newport precisely at 6 A.M., of the same day, touching at Bristol and Warren for the troops on the east side of the bay, and an extra train of cars will be dispatched from Westerly, at the same hour, to transport the troops on the west side of the bay, assembled at the different stopping places between Westerly and Providence. Returning will leave Providence the evening of the same day, by same conveyance, at 4 o'clock. The troops from those portions of the State, who do not take either of the above conveyances, will assemble as follows: those coming from the westerly part of the State, will assemble in front of Rev. Dr. Tucker's Church in Broad-street; those from the northerly part of the State, will assemble on Court-house Parade.
It is desirable that those companies that do not appear in uniform, adopt dark coats and white pantaloons. It is also desirable that the companies provide such music as is convenient.
More definite arrangements as soon as completed, will be made known through the newspapers.
You will please inform us immediately, whether we shall expect you or not and the number you will muster.
You will please address Capt. William Viall of this city:
We are respectfully yours, for the Committee.
William W. Brown,
WILLIAM VIALL.
