SPOKANE, Dec. 9 - Felix E. Wormster of New York City, secretary-treasurer of the Lead Industries Association, predicted today that atomic power projects will make heavy demands in the future on the lead industry, which he said is now unable to keep up with the demand.
In an address prepared for delivery at the 52nd annual convention of the Northwest Mining Association, Wormster said:
"Anyone here in the Northwest who considers the scientific developments at Hanford, Wash., and Oak Ridge, Tenn., (atomic power plants) knows that they portend large uses of lead for shielding men from dangerous radiation. The practical use of atomic power is in part a shielding problem. Hanford and Oak Ridge use hundreds of tons of lead in shields,"
